As we age, our skin can lose collagen and fat, resulting in visible signs of aging in the face. This aging process can make you look tired, even when you’re not. If you are unhappy with sagging skin or loss of muscle tone in the face and wish to restore the masculine appearance of your youth, consider a facelift at Center for Plastic Surgery Ann Arbor.
Who Is a Facelift Candidate?
Men who are experiencing sagging skin of the mid and lower face and neck due to loss of skin elasticity can often benefit from a facelift. Also, those who have developed the appearance of jowls, creases at the corners of the mouth, and have lost the appearance of a youthful chin may be good candidates. A consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons is needed to fully assess whether this procedure is right for you.
The Facelift Procedure
Depending on the amount of correction desired, the facelift procedure will differ from patient to patient. All facelift procedures are done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. However, the location of loose skin will depend on where incisions are placed.
For men desiring a traditional facelift, incisions start at the temples and continue around the ear, into the lower scalp. For patients who wish to undergo a limited facelift, shorter incisions are placed at the temples and around the ears. Lastly, a neck lift can also be incorporated to address loose skin and fat under the chin. A neck lift requires incisions starting in front of the ear and extending behind the ear, into the lower scalp.
All incisions are made along or in the hairline to achieve a natural appearance.
Our board-certified plastic surgeons have more than 50 years of combined
experience in all facets of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. As a qualified and
compassionate team, they share a goal of providing a safe and rewarding plastic surgery
experience while creating exceptional results worthy of your trust.
Following a facelift procedure, patients will return home wearing dressings around the head and neck that will help to minimize swelling. Any discomfort that occurs can be controlled with oral medication. Sutures are removed within 7 to 14 days, though swelling can last around 2 to 3 months.
