The Wild World of Patient Reviews

Patient satisfaction is everything when it comes to online reviews. But when it comes to sites like Yelp, Healthgrades, and RateMDs, it is important to keep in mind that the barrier to entry is nonexistent. In other words, it is entirely possible that the review author has never set foot in the practice.

Of course, those inaccuracies are the exception that proves the rule. We do encourage our Ann Arbor cosmetic surgery patients to temper their reading of online reviews accordingly.

So, how do you judge whether reviews are legitimate?

Use RealPatientRatings.

This review site goes the extra mile: All reviews on this site come from the survey completed by real patients who have completed a qualified visit to a physician’s office. Not everyone can go online and write a doctor review on this site, and we can’t selectively choose which of our patients gets surveyed.

This means that the reviews illustrate an accurate depiction of overall patient experience. We are committed to giving you a better idea of how we do business here at Center for Plastic Surgery Ann Arbor before you come in for a consultation.

Ask about negative reviews.

Saw a negative review? Ask the practice about it. When we get those questions, those conversations help us know what matters most to every patient. Good communication is essential to your final results — and that begins with feeling comfortable asking your surgeon any question at all.

You should feel like you can trust your surgeon, so if you have any doubts, it is important to voice them. When we encounter that, those are the moments when we can resolve the issue together. Additionally, it might be a great learning moment for the practice; they should always welcome and appreciate all your feedback.

Do your own research.

This is an important part of finding the right board-certified plastic surgeon for your specific needs. While online reviews are a great starting point, they can’t tell the whole story. Recommendations from friends and family can help, too, but you ultimately need your own perspective.

We also advise patients to check out real patient before-and-after photo galleries. These pictures will give you a better idea of your potential with that particular surgeon. If you are not satisfied with a surgeon’s previous results, then you should explore other options.

Lastly, take a look at your prospective surgeon’s credentials. He or she should first and foremost be certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a distinction that requires rigorous training and examinations. Ideally, your surgeon should also be an active member of other professional organizations, with years of accumulated experience. Lastly, it is best to choose a surgeon who specializes in the surgery that you are interested in.

And of course, if you’re ready for the most important piece of your research, it’s time to request a consultation online or call our office at (734) 210-0546.
