Empowering Yourself To Be Your Best Version

Jessica Carpenter

Women’s Empowerment Agency co-founder Jessica Carpenter shares her plastic surgery experience in Ann Arbor with Dr. Sherick and how it’s given her the confidence to pursue her dreams.

As a young girl, my mom told me I had thunder thighs, childbearing hips, and an hourglass figure whose sand had sunk to the bottom. My self-esteem was shot over the years. Now in my late 40s, I’ve learned to love my body even when I’m a little overweight or not in the best shape that I could be. Although I’ve never touched the areas my mom so cruelly cut me down on, I did fix my stomach with abdominoplasty and I reduced the size of my breasts to feel more confident when wearing dress clothes. I learned about 14 years ago how important it was to take care of my skin and have regularly visited estheticians to have skin peels, get recommendations on skin products, and have laser resurfacing done a couple of times a year to keep my skin looking youthful.

Considering Plastic Surgery

When it came to big procedures it was something I sat on for a while and over the years I sought out different opinions. There were times I would go in for a consultation pointing out different areas I wasn’t necessarily happy with to the plastic surgeon and they agreed to fix everything I pointed out, and boy would it have cost me. They would have been doing what was best for their pocketbook and not my body. I decided during those times to wait, work out, and think some more. I wanted someone who would be honest with me and not just tell me okay to whatever little, tiny thing I was not happy with.

Consulting With Dr. Sherick

In March of this year, I was getting my bi-yearly laser resurfacing and I was discussing my desire to have plastic surgery to reduce my breast size, and it was recommended I see Dr. Sherick.

I will mention that when I was 26–two years after having my three children and working out religiously to try and get back into shape–I had a mini tummy tuck to get rid of a lot of excess skin. Over the last 21 years, the skin has loosened and some of the fat settled above the scar line.

I met with Dr. Sherick and he listened to everything I had to say. He made suggestions that I didn’t even know existed, and I was so excited to have my surgery. He is secretly called “the boob whisperer” and now I know why. I could not have been happier with the entire staff and the way my body looks now.

Being the Best Versions of Ourselves

Although I can’t say enough praises for the Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sherick, and his entire staff (seriously, I will miss seeing them). The reason I am writing this article is because I feel strongly that we should all be the best versions of ourselves. Our bodies go through so much as we carry our children and some of us breastfeed.

As women, we spend a good portion of our lives trying to do things for others, and at times neglect ourselves. We cannot forget to take care of ourselves, physically, mentally, and spiritually. We have one body and one life.

We should raise other women up every day and feel good about who we are and how we treat others. Everyone has insecurities, so we need to be kind to others and know that we are all fighting the same fight. Feel confident and treat ourselves with the best intentions. It took me a long time to learn this and through hard times of my own, my daughter and I created the Women’s Empowerment Agency. If you need encouragement, need someone to talk to, or want to find ways to encourage others, visit our website or Facebook. Hopefully, we can encourage and inspire you to be your best version.
